How to Manage Warranty Types?
Is an item still covered by the manufacturer? Did you buy an extended service plan for that generator? Warranty Types let you define the kinds of warranty your assets carry — once — so anyone recording warranty details on an item picks from a clean, consistent list instead of typing free text. Each type gets its own color, making it easy to spot coverage at a glance.
To manage them, navigate to Settings > Inventory Setup > Warranty Types.
Where warranty types are used: When you record warranty details on an asset, the Warranty Type field is a dropdown fed by this list. Keeping the list tidy here keeps your asset records clean everywhere.
Why Set Up Warranty Types?
- Consistency — everyone selects from the same standard list (e.g. “Manufacturer Warranty”, “Extended Warranty”) instead of inventing their own labels.
- At-a-glance clarity — each type carries a color dot, so coverage is easy to scan.
- Reusability — define a type once and reuse it across every asset in your inventory.
Reading the Table
The page lists every warranty type you’ve created. Use the search box to filter by name or description, and check the Total and Active counts above the table.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The warranty type name, with its color dot beside it. Inactive types appear dimmed. |
| Description | Optional note explaining when to use this type (shows - if blank). |
| Status | Active or Inactive. |
| Actions | Edit, enable/disable, and delete controls. |
Adding a Warranty Type
- Click Add Type in the top-right corner.
- In the Add Warranty Type dialog, fill in the details:
- Name (Required) — the label staff will see, for example “Manufacturer Warranty” or “Extended Warranty”.
- Description (Optional) — a short note about what this type covers.
- Color — pick one of the preset swatches. This color appears as a dot next to the name in the table and elsewhere.
- Click Create.
Your new warranty type is immediately available in the Warranty Type dropdown when recording warranty details on an asset.
Editing a Warranty Type
- Find the type in the table and click the pencil (edit) icon in the Actions column.
- Update the name, description, or color in the Edit Warranty Type dialog.
- Click Save Changes.
Activating or Deactivating a Type
If you no longer offer a warranty type but don’t want to remove it, disable it instead of deleting. Disabled types stay in your records but are hidden from selection dropdowns.
- Click the toggle switch in the Actions column for that row.
- Confirm the change in the pop-up.
You can re-enable a disabled type at any time using the same toggle.
Deleting a Warranty Type
- Click the trash (delete) icon in the Actions column.
- Confirm in the pop-up.
Deleting cannot be undone. If a warranty type is or was in use, disable it instead so historical records stay intact.
Permissions
Managing warranty types requires the Settings Write (settings.write) permission. Without it, the Add Type, edit, toggle, and delete controls are visible but disabled. Anyone with access to Settings can view the list.
