Working with Sample Data

Want to see how orders, invoices, and inventory connect before you type in a single real record? When you finish setting up your workspace, Rentablez can pre-fill your account with sample assets, orders, and customers in one click — a safe sandbox for learning the ropes and training staff.

Why Use Sample Data?

Starting from a populated workspace lets you:

  • Explore workflows — open a real-looking order, generate an invoice, and see how the pieces fit together.
  • Test printouts — view sample invoices and quotes with your own logo and branding.
  • Train staff — let new team members practice on realistic records before they touch live customers.

Sample data is created inside your workspace as normal records. It is not a separate demo mode — the assets, customers, and orders behave exactly like real ones and count in your lists until you remove them.

Where the Choice Appears

You don’t hunt for a button — the option is built into first-time setup. Right after you create your account, Rentablez shows a blocking Complete Your Setup wizard on the dashboard. You can’t skip it: you fill in your business details and the terminology step, and on the final step you decide how to begin.

That last step (“Your account is ready!”) asks How would you like to get started? and offers two cards:

  • Add Sample Data — “Pre-filled assets, orders, and customers to explore features.”
  • Start Fresh — “Empty dashboard — add your own data from scratch.”

To load sample data

  1. Complete the earlier steps of the Complete Your Setup wizard.
  2. On the final step, select the Add Sample Data card.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Wait while Rentablez builds your sandbox — a “Adding Sample Data…” message shows and it takes roughly 10–50 seconds.
  5. You land on your dashboard, now populated with sample records.

Prefer a blank slate? Choose Start Fresh instead and click Get Started — you go straight to an empty dashboard and add your own data when you’re ready.

After Setup

The sample-data choice is part of one-time onboarding, so it only appears the first time you set up your workspace. If you picked Start Fresh and later wish you’d loaded examples, you can build your own test records by hand — see Creating Orders, Managing Customers, and Create an Asset.

Cleaning Up

Because sample records are ordinary data, you remove them the same way you’d delete any real record. Do it in order so nothing is blocked by a link:

  1. Delete the sample orders first. Assets and customers can’t be removed while they’re attached to an active order.
  2. Then delete the sample assets and customers from their respective pages.

Clearing out sample data before you go live keeps your reports and dashboard figures accurate.
